Mambo Italiano - Rosemary Clooney

It's always a little hard to understand a song's intentions but I believe that this song was poking a little bit of fun. I think the meaning overall was just to get people up and moving and It does push a stress-free idea. The lyrics do tend to repeat quite a bit but it seems that they keep talking about stopping what you are doing, letting go, and dancing. Rosemary Clooney sang the song however, I am pretty sure she is not Italian so I think the writer picked her to sing this song because it showcased her vocal abilities. I love that the brass comes in at the end of each phrase to create an emphasis on the ending. Also, It is mostly Clooney singing and there are not really a lot of instruments except for percussion and some brass. It's not like most of today's music that relies on a variety of instruments and vocal backing. There is also the genre of computer-generated melodies (a.k.a techno songs). I think this song was meant to showcase Clooney's true singing talent. I think one aspect that shocked me was just the lyrics because I actually had a hard time understanding them. I don’t know Italian at all, but I do know that enchiladas are a Hispanic dish, so I am not quite sure why they were mentioned except for maybe the fact that Spanish and Italian are Latin-based languages? Anyways, let me know what you think of the lyrics from a literal meaning.

  1. I think that you hit some of the main points of this song. She defiantly isn't Italian but still makes her best effort to bring that pizzazz to this song. There is one word I recognize which is 'paisano' which means 'fellow countryman'. That's about the only word that doesn't point directly towards food and she uses it to tell all of us, her fellow countryman, to learn how to mambo. I think you drew some good comparisons and did a very good overall analysis of the song.

  2. I agree with what you said about the song poking a bit of fun. I think it's a very upbeat song that was written and composed to get people up and dancing. It was very impressive how much power she has in her voice, and how few instruments are needed.

  3. Hello dear classmate, I totally agree with what you have stated on your post. Of course, this song is catchy and memorable due to the fact that the Lyrics is repeated a dozen of times. Good job!
